Loot from Japan…

P3280896

That I bought in San Francisco lol ;p. I was in San Francisco for the past few days which is why there haven’t been any recent posts ^^. But what I bought while I was in San Francisco was imported from Japan so it could be considered something I bought from Japan ^^. I know I would buy the same thing if I was in Japan, just check out my loot from my actual trip to Japan last year. It was pretty cool visiting the sights, but the best part would have to be all the anime stuff that I bought lol. I numbered the items I bought in the picture above so that I could refer to it and show you what was inside the magazines or what it came with. Read on for a picture intensive look at my loot ;p.

Japan Trip-Part 7

This last post will be on the swag that I bought while in Japan. I believe I spent more on food and drink than on otaku stuff. Some of my money also went towards the arcades while I was there. So if you plan on going to Japan and want to buy otaku stuff, bring lots of cash or have a credit card, preferably Visa.

One of the real cool things about Japanese Otaku magazines is the amount of free stuff you can get inside, and its not junk either. I got a bunch of detailed glossy posters just in one of the magazines that now currently decorate my room. I also saw one with a figure but didn’t like it so I passed on it. Btw, most posters are of girls in normal otaku magazines, so for you yaoi girls out there, there were also yaoi magazines. The Hime magazine cost 200 yen at a discount manga/otaku store which came with cute sticky notes and the Megami was 640 yen I believe that came w/ the big  Lucky Star poster around four feet tall and 2 feet wide ^-^.   That was sugoi.

I really love this figure of Ignis from Alter but never bought it due to the price being around 6000 yen (can’t spend money all the time ^-^), so when I saw this while in Den Den town for 3400 yen I snatched it up right away (although there were three more) and was smiling the rest of the day. I went into other stores in Den Den and found the same Ignis sold from 5400-6400 yen. Lucky me ^-^.

This is what my brother bought, he bought the maid figures for around 200 yen each btw. Magazine/manga was 500 yen and came with a Lucky Star mini journal, stickers, and a postcard. The mangas cost 200 yen at the specialty store…practically half off, what a great find that was.

This was awesome, a Shana cup!!! I only found this in one shop I went to so I was overjoyed when I realized that fact. Very Kawaii. It cost 800 yen.

Japan Trip-Part 6

Today’s post is a bunch of miscellaneous stuff that I didn’t mention in my other posts for they are mainly general. If you are visiting Japan, I would highly recommend taking the rail system. There are multiple rail system but the real difference is the JR Line and Local rail line, difference being JR goes all over Japan while Local is for the local area only. After you step out into the main building of the airport, head over to the tourist area where you can get information on where to visit in Japan and most importantly, train tickets. As a foreigner, based on my experience, you get a three day pass for 5,000 yen and a one day for 2000 yen. Here’s the trick, visit all the popular tourist spots, can usually be found in the book they give you that describes the place and how to get there, that charge you an entrance fee. For in the book they give you with your ticket are coupons you can use to fully pay for the entrance fee or at least give you some percent off, for example I visited Osaka castle and the entrance fee is 600 yen for an adult which I used the coupon to pay for, thats practically 1/3 of the one day pass 0o0.

This is a map for the railroad layout of the Kansai area, as you can see its divided into colors which also appear in the train station so you know which line you are taking. They also tell you each stop in Japanese and English. I had another map that also told me the train station number which was also very useful in identifying which train station I was in and where it was going to. This was the most useful item I received in Japan and would be lost without it.

If you only need a one way ticket, you can use these machines at every station and pay whatever is required to get there, the price is shown on a map above the machine. Be advised the machines I saw were only in Japanese and English.

Went to a sushi bar in Japan, the sashimi/toppings were all fresh. What I liked was the rice which isn’t as heavy on the white vinegar as it is back home. One cool thing that isn’t at my local sushi bar is a hot water dispenser (as seen below) which I use to get my own green tea, first I put in the tea powder in my cup which is on the side of me and just press it against a button to get the hot water. It was neat.

Anime has brain washed me into thinking all school girls wear mini skirts that are three-five inches above the knee, very disappointing to see girls wearing long skirts. But this is the Kansai region which might be different, who knows?

Although I saw many cars in Japan, I believe bikers beat that amount. Many people ride bikes and there were a few things I noticed. First, bikers come out of no where behind you but they are very careful and looks like no one would ever hit anyone so if you see a biker behind you walk straight so they can avoid you. Second, if bikers are about to hit someone, they screech hard on the brakes which is deafening or ring their bell. Third, bikers in Japan are crazy multi-taskers, I saw people riding their bikes, talking on the phone, and hold an umbrella in rain or shine…crazy

This was the view from the top of floating gardens in the busy Umeda district which is a great view at night. It’s truly a magnificent site and best viewed at night. The floor below also had a delicious mango sundae for 400 yen. It has neon lights along the inner wall that allows you to see through thin shirts btw ;p. This was another where the coupon saved me around 600 yen with the coupon, happy day.

This button was everywhere, prevents the door from automatically opening from those passing by, I don’t know why but I thought this was cool.

Got to play a Taiko Drum game which was pretty cool, felt just like Konata from Lucky Star as I played Hare Hare Yukai from Melancholy of Haruhi

A MOS burger…looks a bit funny but delicious and recommended as a place to eat, the onions were a bit sweet which I liked for I hate the strong onion flavor.

Mmmmm…takoyaki, Japan cooks their takoyaki longer than mine which was great as it was less runny but still molten hot

Japan Trip-Part 5

For my last day in Japan, I stayed in the town around my hotel which would probably be boring but luckily a festival was going on that day at the local shopping street. People were yelling, cute girls giving away stuff like fans and tissues, crazy dancing, street food galore, games, etc of a festival. So it was really cool plus I spent the day going from arcade to arcade playing different games and trying to win prizes from UFO catchers, wish we had these back in the states. Local arcades are done with coins still unlike the corrupt American recharge card, with arcade games costing usually 50 or 100 yen. UFO’s were usually 100 yen for the smaller prizes and 200 yen for big ones.

These guys were crazy, jumping up and down/running with that shrine and yelling at the same time while going down a possible 15 blocks or more. I really liked their spirit. It was hotter when the girls did it though lol.

Kids also joined in the festival, as some kids (slaves in my opinion lol ^-^) pulled other kids who sat down and drummed their little hearts out in a beat. It was kawaii.

This was cool, I got to be a Principality of Zeon/Jion Guf/Gaff in this arcade game and shot down a bunch of mobile suits with my gun modeled after the Guf’s gun. It’s always cool to be evil lol

Another Gundam game was a fighter where I became a Gundam (Freedom I believe) and sliced/shot my way in a Gundam Gauntlet. It was pretty cool and wish I had more time to play more mobile suits.

Now for the “dark side” of arcades, I believe this was a dating game where you play Mahjong to eventually have intercourse with the girl, I never went that far as I suck at the game but the previews showed my how far you could get.

Got this from the UFO game its a neko (cat) on maguro (tuna) thats not just cute but also has a clock in the middle of the tuna.

This was a cute child’s game character, its like a chocolate covered marshmellow with big eyebrows ^-^.

This was a cute inu (dog), possibly Shiba Inu, that passed by…the owner was pretty cute herself.

Japan Trip-Part 4

Sorry about the lack of posts, I was busy, even today. This post is my favorite for it embodies the spirit of otaku. For I have visited the second Akihabara (Akiba) called Den Den Town or Nipponbashi. To get there while in Osaka by train, you go on the Sakaisuji line and get off at the Ebisucho station and I believe go out by exit 1. Once you come out you will breathe electronics, anime, games, gundams, naughty stuff, and that o such wonderful smell of otaku lol. I got to see otaku’s in their natural habitat and let me tell you something, where all the otaku go are for +18 people lol. Honestly I went to these “naughty places” and normal places and that +18 is where all otaku were. I got to see people of all ages though, but mostly +18. Den Den Town isn’t exactly Akiba and is actually I believe smaller but still filled with enough otakuness to satisfy. If you ever go there to search for otaku stuff, I would suggest walking around first and window shop or in my case floor shop lol. I bought an Ignis figure (will show in later post) made by Alter for I believe 3880 yen which on the two floors above in the same building was around 6000 yen. So shop around and you might find a big score like mine, for I went to many stores and found they all differed in price even though they sold the same item. You can find some cheap eats while you are there, but I recommend you save money for otaku stuff. I saw a few maid cafes as well but didn’t have time to eat strawberry shortcake with a cute maid (I should have though lol).
Note: Sorry for the big pics, will have to resize them later on photobucket. Some images NSFW

My first step into Den Dent town

I’m not quite sure what’s going on but I believe its to put orders for figures, help would be nice ^-^
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Can’t go wrong with Haruhi, except when it would bust my wallet lol, around 7500 yen
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
For those who need cheap figures, might I recommend gachapon rooms which sell miniature figures of all types for usually 100-300 yen
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
For your doujin needs, I would recommend Melonbooks. Trust me, they don’t skip out on the doujin with everything showing to entice you to pick it up and buy
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Btw, in Japan you will see signs in stores telling you not to take pictures or video, o well lol. A whole floor dedicated to gundams, the ones in the display case were very nice.

The following pictures are of a Gamers I found (those who know Di Gi Charat) in Nishiki Market of Kyoto. This marketplace was huge and would probably take me two days to fully explore. But finding a Gamers was pretty awesome.
