The picture above has almost no connection to what I’m going to talk about, I just thought it looked funny xD.

I’m sure many of you know that some crazy stuff has been happening in the world of otaku as of late. But I wonder if you’re up to date with some of the other interesting stuff that’s been happening in Akihabara as of late?

First off, there is word of more police hanging around Akihabara after the stabbing took place. This is a good thing for security reasons, especially if there might be copy cats. I learned of people carrying around knives in Akiba before but with the stabbing taking place I believe there’s going to be a lot more incidents involving people that carry knives and the police. Like one incident after the stabbing where 18 members of the police force were interrogating one guy carrying a swiss army knife.

Many of you know of Akiba’s famous Chuo-doori street which closes on Sunday’s and let’s people walk back and forth along the street to get their shopping done, lots of open space for cosplayers to get their pictures taken, or just to walk around for fun with some friends. But that famous street will now be open to traffic again all day on Sunday’s, this hasn’t happened since 1973 when it was first closed to traffic. Via GameLife. I’m not sure if many of you know this but Tsutomu Miyazaki, the “original otaku” (I say original because he made the world of otaku known throughout Japan and possibly the world, click the link “original otaku” to get a elaborated explanation), was recently executed for the crime’s he committed in the 1980’s. WARNING: The link to the story is a bit extreme and not for those who have a weak stomach/can’t handle gruesome information/younger people (though I know they’re going to click the link regardless)/people that don’t like violence The story can be found via Akibana.

Crazy stuff happening now and I’m sure there will be more in future. Stay tuned for more Otaku News ^^.

    It’s sad. We otaku suffer for other peoples mistakes. People blame the group instead of blaming the person. I hope these things will calm down when I go to Japan in the summer.

    @Rin: Hopefully so, I hope they reopen Chuo-doori when you go ^^.
    @Rakuen: Things will get sorted out, people are starting to lean away from the otaku idea and more towards personal matters.
    @Rokku: It’s sad but true.
