Loot from Japan…

P3280896

That I bought in San Francisco lol ;p. I was in San Francisco for the past few days which is why there haven’t been any recent posts ^^. But what I bought while I was in San Francisco was imported from Japan so it could be considered something I bought from Japan ^^. I know I would buy the same thing if I was in Japan, just check out my loot from my actual trip to Japan last year. It was pretty cool visiting the sights, but the best part would have to be all the anime stuff that I bought lol. I numbered the items I bought in the picture above so that I could refer to it and show you what was inside the magazines or what it came with. Read on for a picture intensive look at my loot ;p.

1. I bought Lucky star manga which is pretty interesting. It not only has different stories that weren’t shown in the anime, cute pictures are also included that include the cover of the book (not the protective one) and pictures that came with the manga. The manga itself is interesting in terms of wording, for the first two have kanji that don’t have furigana next to it 99% of the time while the three remaining do have furigana next to the kanji lol. The main reason I bought the manga was to help improve my Japanese in both grammar and comprehension, plus it’s Lucky Star lol.

2. Megami magazine (メガミマガジン) is a anime magazine that definitely caters to it’s customers, it not only comes with a general review of the latest animes, it also comes lots of really nice and glossy posters that you can cut out and hang on the wall (which I will do soon ;p). It’s the only one I know besides Dengeki Hime (電撃姫) that gives you such high quality posters to “otakufy your room” lol. I bought the latest issue that has Shana on the cover, which is pretty cool considering I’m a Shana fanboy ;p. There’s a “guidebook” about the characters and the latest information about the second season since the magazine was printed, that would be the battle of the Flame Haze’s vs Sabrac.

3. The Lucky Star art book/guidebook, is what my brother bought. It has information on the characters, the voice actors (seiyuu), information on the locations seen in the opening theme song, summaries of all the episodes, and more. It’s all you ever need to know about the Lucky Star anime in one book ;p.

Note: 4. is the figure on the bottom right corner in the picture above that is from G’s Magazine that has information on the latest anime and dating sim games.

5. Now we get down to the most expensive and probably the best buy of them all, Degenki G’s Festival volume 2, ToHeart 2 Another Days edition. Now I say most expensive because it cost me nearly 2-4 times the cost of everything else. But there’s a reason for it lol, it’s because of the extras they give you ;p. Not only do you get a high quality magazine with lots of information and illustrations from the game, but you also get a hug pillow cover (dakimakura 抱き枕) that has Kouno Harumi printed on it in a seductive pose , a Yamada Michiru / Yoshioka Chie cellphone cleaner and strap, and lastly a Kousaka Tamaki oppai (breast) mouse pad ;p. If you do the math I probably saved over 150 USD by getting all of extras from Degenki G’s Festival, the pillow cover itself costs over 100 USD if you buy it from another company and the mouse pad is around 50 USD. I bet some of you are wondering “What does the oppai mouse pad and the pillow cover feel like?” The mouse pad is firm yet comfortable and yes I poked it, I know all of you would do it as well ;p. The mouse pad will be in storage and probably never used lol, I just wanted it just for the sake of having it. The pillow cover is nice but a bit rough. I assume the pillow covers that you can buy from other companies have more of a silk feeling to it. It’s currently hanging and will “be” a hanger lol, I’m not going to use it, though I feel as though you think otherwise.

Note: The card on the left came with the Megami Magazine and not Degenki G’s Festival. I included it in the picture above because it’s a close up shot that allows you to take a good look at the card.

So if you want to get some of this awesome stuff for a cheap price, be on the look out for the Degenki G’s Festival magazine that you can pre-order online. You could also pick it up at Kinokuniya Book Store, I wish there was a Konokuniya book store where I live T-T. They sell a bunch of imported books from Japan including manga, the magazines I picked up, music cds, a few figures, and more. The one I went to was located in the San Francisco Japantown. Japantown also has other anime stores and authentic Japanese stores that sell swords, car accessories, furniture, and more. There’s even a restaurant that has manga on the side that you can pick up and read while you wait for your food, there are no cute maids though ;p.

To finish off, here are a couple things you can do while in San Francisco. One is visit Fisherman’s Wharf where you will find some of the freshest seafood in the area that includes crab, shrimp, oysters, San Francisco’s famous clam chowder in a bread bowl, and more. I recommend going to Sabella & La Torre that has the best clam chowder around and they validate parking lol.

FW

While I was there, I visited San Francisco’s Lombard Street which is known for it’s tight turns, you probably can’t go over 10 mph on that street. I mention this because I saw a bunch of adrenaline junkies riding down the street while sitting on skateboards lol. They used their hands to steer and went down the street regardless if there were already cars on the street. They were actually pretty good, navigating the tight turns and around the cars and weren’t seriously injured after going down the few times I saw them. The last picture is just a sign that I found interesting, I bet you know why ;p.

SF

So if you’re visiting San Francisco and you’re an otaku, you know where to go to get your fill of otakuness ;p.

      LOL at the last sign. xD

      You bought all of this in San Fransisco?! If only I knew of that place before… I live very close to San Fransisco, maybe I’ll drop by that place some time. ;P Beats importing anyday, imo.

      i find it odd that the lucky star manga only has furigana from the 3rd volume onwards. its a really good read though.

      and it looks like the Kinokuniya in the US has more goodies than the one in my country. Megami magazines are unavailable in my local one due to moralfags.

      Went to SF once and I admit I loved it. The temperate-oceanic climate, the crazily inclination of the streets, but also the coolness of the stores there are definite great points.
      Great loot! I’d love to buy a Megami magazine one day… And not for intimate purposes. ^^;

      Sweetness, I wish I had a Kino near me as well. Instead I have to make do with a Japanese bookstore that pretty much doubles the Yen price for their magazines. Is it that way with the Kino over there in SF?

      Looks like an awesome trip you had, haven’t traveled in a while, and I’m thinking I’m too lazy to travel anyways, awesome grabs you’ve made with this trip, you should make more trips ^^

      Nice!

    7. Gravatar Icon 7 Choo

      ahaha nice loots and no figures? I guess i got the same thoughts like Rokku-San.

      @Espydon: Shiny is good ;p.
      @xXMikotoNakadaiXx: Lucky guy lol, maybe we can meet up the next time I visit?
      @Setsuna-san: What a shame, Megami should be allowed anywhere as it only shows characters in suggestible clothing, unlike Degenki Hime with actual softcore pictures.
      @D_Blade: Megami is great for wall decorations ;p.
      @shinohai: The price was about 6 USD above the yen price, just so they could cover the cost of importing ;p. Double huh, pretty crazy XD.
      @Rokku & Choo: Surprising isn’t it ;p? Actually, I wanted to buy Good Smile’s Alice that was in the store as well but Aria shaichou had a clearly visible scratch so I decided not to buy it. There were other figures though like Max Factory’s Haruhi but it doesn’t capture my interest.
      @digitalboy: That is Megami’s April 2008 volume 95.
