Japanese doctors providing performance enhancing drugs?

She’s too kawaii for enhancements

That’s what Dan Serafini said happened when he was injured playing baseball in Asia. Dan is free agent baseball pitcher who has recently signed on with the Colorado Rockies. But Dan has tested positive for performance enhancing drugs; he blames a Japanese doctor, whose name has not been disclosed, for the drugs the doctor prescribed to him to help with the injuries he suffered from last year in Asia. He tells the press “I have not taken these or any banned substances since returning to the U.S. and signing with the Colorado Rockies organization in July” (AFP). He also goes on to say that he will never seek treatment again from any overseas doctor and suggests major leaguers should only rely on US-based doctors. Via AFP

Hmmmm…this seems familiar. Oh I know, its almost like the article I talked about yesterday. Once again another person goes on to say that you should not trust something from overseas, more specifically a Japanese doctor. Luckily this guy isn’t as famous as the last one, I believe. So there is less likely a chance that people will follow his advice. There are many holes in this story, including the storyteller himself. I’m pretty sure Dan, as “recent major leaguer,” should have asked if there were any potential side effects from taking the prescription the doctor gave him. He probably didn’t care and just wanted something to make him heal faster. How can he blame the doctor? The doctor probably didn’t know himself when he prescribed the drug, maybe he only knew what it was made for and possibly minor side effects that excludes performance enhancers. I know drugs prescribed in Asia are different from what we have here in the US, but he should have known that. Many doctors in Asia actually study in the US but do not have access to the drugs we have here so they must use something easily available to them. Another bad experience comes along and the guy just blames his Japanese doctor who was trying to help him. “I have not taken these or any banned substances since returning to the U.S. and signing with the Colorado Rockies organization in July,” that could be a total lie. There are major leaguers out there who take performance enhancing drugs here in the US, so this guy could just be using the Japanese doctor as a scapegoat. Quite sad, this is another instance where something could get blown out of proportion because of one person and might bring a negative effect to the other party. I hope this guy does get injured again in Asia and we will see what he does.

O btw, I’m soaking wet right now lol. It was pouring when I got to school and getting to class felt like swimming through a pool, as with every step I take felt like swimming in water. Even my laptop got wet, even though it’s inside of my bag ^^. Luckily my trusty umbrella was with me so I believe I should have been 150% more wet if it weren’t for it, thank you umbrella-san. There has been a flash-flood warning posted but everything seems to have calmed down now.  I hope its nice and sunny where you live now ^^.

wow, first with the sushi and now with the medicine. am i the only one here who is sensing some xenophobic vibes here??
on another note, did your laptop survive after being soaked??

Another nice sample of sport bullsh… Why wouldn’t you rename your blog SportsControversy?
No, I’m just kidding. No offense intended.

Well, my answer would be the same as before. Ignorant people try stuff even if they don’t speak Japanese, then blame them for this and that without looking themselves in the mirror first.
Another example of baka-baka people. ;)

No, here is nice, except that there was some thin layers of ice on pavements. Hopefully it wasn’t smooth enough to play “Here cometh novice ice skater” (meaning sliding on it like a penguin who lost balance).
Hope your laptop is unscathed, otherwise.

cute bishoujo pic u got there! people should try stuff after they know clearly what the stuff does, so as not to suffer later. well hope your laptop is alright =].

Seiryuu’s last blog post..Zakeru *VS* Gomu Gomu no…

@Setsuna-san: Xenophic? As in, if I’m xenophobic? Well I guess I am initially, as everyone should be as it is instinct.
@D_Blade: Lol, chaning the name of the site would make a bit more sense. I remember doing a poll a while back on what content people would like to see more of and random Japanese related news was something people wanted to see more of so I decided to share more articles that peaked my interest.
    @Seiryuu: True, true.
@everyone: Thanks for your concern about my laptop, I actually used it to make this blog entry lol so it is alright. Originally a bit worried because of the drops of water I found near the exhaust port and the moisture in my bag that surrounded the laptop but everything is fine. Wouldn’t be able to do this blog without it ^^. The top and bottom of my books and folder did get soaked though lol, but I don’t really care for them.

AS, my friend, I guess you got it wrong… Twice. *laughs*

I believe Setsuna-san felt some negative ambiance (I did too) in your two latest posts. It’s not even talking about some “US sportsmen vs Japan” because it would be generalizing and confirming personal utter crap for judgement (”Oh, you know, I felt sick because I ate sushi! Sushi is baaaaad, never eat sushi~!” or “Don’t visit Japanese doctors or they will dope you!”)… what both of those “sport professionals” nicely did in your articles (sadly they are not very pro in their communication styles).

Xenophobia never helps. Instead, you have to remain cautious in your own way while not referring to this and that or categorizing. Every person is different and generalizing kills this search for uniqueness in people. Trust me. More thoughts to share? E-mail me if you wish.

As for changing your blog name, I was jo-king. Seeing two articles of the same theme and back to back only made me want to put some witty comments and maybe tease you a bit as always (Though making you slightly angry never was my point and will never be). If you ever felt bad vibes and reacted to them, sorry.
Anyway, I’d love to see more coolness from Japan and hear much less about stupid people. Thanks in adv’. ;)

P.S.: If that Dan guy was so smart, he should have brought his team’s doctor or at least a interpreter and a file with all substances he is not allowed to take. *Sigh* Logic, where are you when we most need you? *Laughs evilly*

To avoid further probable misunderstandings, I would like to express myself some more.
I forgot to precise that Setsuna-san probably didn’t brand you as xenophobic, but rather used this adjective to describe the feeling left by those guys in the articles, how those sportsmen could be prone in creating a psychological embargo on Japanese products and services (Bull’s-eye or not Setsuna-san?) and so on…

    Well then. Abayo!

@D_Blade: I should express myself more as well lol. Sorry if I made any misunderstandings, but it is quite hard to type sarcasm lol. I was never angry and laughed when you said the name should be changed, I was only joking around with my responses that seemed humorous to me, need to think of a way to actually have it sound sarcastic ^^, maybe I’ll right sarcastic at the end in parenthesis lol…nah, too lame. I’ll think of something, maybe more lols.

AS, i didnt mean that you were xenophobic. That was directed at the ignorant fellas who conveniently use people of different races as an excused to get away with whatever they might have done, that just gets me pissed off.
    D_Blade: you got a headshot there.^^

I apologize for making such a strong statement and will try to make my statements clearer in the future.

  9. 9 AS

@Setsuna-san: Don’t worry about it ^^. The problem with the internet is how we don’t get to see the other person when we react. I just need to assume what the other person is feeling at the time, usually the first thought that comes to mind I just put down. I actually look at what I type after I actually type it lol, I should add more lols. But if you want to tell me something like I’m xenophobic or something else then I will accept it, if anything I can always delete the comment lol. I like people who put down their thoughts and wish to express themselves, like yourself and D_Blade, as long as its sensible and generally constructive and not destructive. Please continue ^^.
