Mmmmm….Delicious
I’m not talking about “The Pope,” I’m talking about Derrick Pope who is the linebacker for the Miami Dolphins. “Don’t eat California rolls, and don’t eat shrimp tempura,” is what Pope said which explains his sickness and absence from part of the game against the Steeler’s. He was hospitalized last week Friday with a severe stomach ailment from Japanese food.
Ok…….eating sushi and tempura does not always make people sick. I know there are people out there who can’t eat sushi because it will make them sick, so when I finished reading the article the first thought I had was “dumba$$,” which my friend, who gets sick from eating fish, also thought. She and I agreed that there were flaws with this article, including the name of the Japanese restaurant that he ate at not being noted, as you shouldn’t say something as general as that just because of one bad experience which is blown out of proportion based on his statement. For all we know he could have been eating Japanese food from the back of Japanese restaurant or at the most expensive Japanese restaurant in his area. Possibly an allergic reaction? Maybe the place that served the food didn’t prepare the food correctly? Maybe it was something besides the food? “Don’t eat sushi,” is not the best statement to make for all to hear, especially if you’re famous as it bring a bad reputation to whatever it is you’re talking about. If you’re famous and you recommend something, one person is bound to get it and if you say you don’t like something then one person will likely follow your advice. This is just another instance of not choosing the right words to say. I myself have eaten sushi and other seafoods prepared with other cultural reference and have not gotten sick from it. If I’m correct though, no one will really care and still eat sushi because they enjoy eating sushi. I also believe the place where Pope had his Japanese meal is most likely the cause of his stomach ailment. I encourage you to go out and eat exotic foods as you never know what delicious meal you can find that is out of your norm.

cool site, found it on jamaipanese
Agree with you, sushi is one of the healthiest fast food, which is explains a lot why Japanese has the most life expectancy compared to other countries.

It’s pretty much the same thing as that professor who got sick after eating some Chinese food and then blamed MSG. Though hopefully sushi won’t end up getting the same kind of bad rap.

What an idiot. Making generalizations and not having proofs to backup them is the worst to do… Especially when you’re well-known person and that many would follow you like stray lambs and not question your logic (Okay, maybe I am going a bit too far there, but you can see my point behind this).
I don’t think he wanted to go against Japanese food (but well, he sure lacks proper diplomacy or common sense here), and I don’t even want to make a aquatic-themed pun on this (Miami Dolphins and seafood sushi. *Sigh*).
Anyway, I found your Sakura picture hilarious (And I’d love to see more like that). Does she want to imitate Gashbell eating a yellowtail?
@Trevor: Thank you, Jamaipanese is pretty cool too.
@ron~: Yep, Japanese who stay in Japan do tend to have longer life expectancies than others, they even have the worlds at 107, but one of the twins, Kin, has recently passed away.
@Orion: I have seen sushi getting some bad rep but the industry still prevails. We just need to see if there is enough fish in the ocean for sushi in the future ^^.
@D_Blade: I’ll see if I can find more hilarious pictures. To be honest I just looked up the picture to get a good title picture for this post, as I do with other posts, and generally have no idea who they are. But they are great and relevant so I choose them. I do know who Gashbell (Zatchbell here in the US) is and his love of yellowtail ^^.
You know, I think he just ate too much. He stuffed himself up with sushi and other Japanese food too quickly that it caused indigestion.
