I hold this to be true, for I wouldn’t feed something to an animal that isn’t made for it or that I can’t eat myself. This is in reference to Sora, from Sketchbook, giving Haa-san (the blue and white cat with navy blue stripes and blue eyes, I love blue ^^) expired food when Sora goes out to feed the neighborhood cats. Giving animals expired food isn’t something one should do, unless the animal has evolved to eat expired food like pigs or vultures. But feeding expired food to a cute neko…nuh uh >_<.

Mike-san (pronounced Mi-ke-san who is the brown/white/black cat) is out strolling the neighborhood when a gigantic tan cat speaks to him and freaks him out. For the cat is showing its superiority by being at a higher elevation than Mike by sitting on top of a trashcan. Not to feel inferior to this new cat, who introduced himself as Kuma, Mike jumps up to the nearest wall that stands above Kuma. But when looking back at the trashcan, Mike is surprised that Kuma isn’t there and looks up to find him flying to the rooftop of the house next to the wall Mike is standing on. Mike once again tries to show his abilities by jumping up to the rooftop with all his might, only to be beaten by Kuma again who has jumped on top of the telephone pole above the rooftop which cause Mike to give up and acknowledge Kuma’s superiority. Kuma starts to ramble about wanting to be a house cat and leaves Mike to contemplate on what has just transpired.

Back at Sora’s school her classmates Asaka, Nagisa, and Ujo are outside watching a praying mantis clean its eyes when out of no where Asaka says she wants a cat. In the art club room, Sora is listening to Natsumi telling her and Hazuki about a gigantic cat she saw with a huge face, Kuma-san, which she demonstrated using her hands but Sora corrected her by expanding her hands further apart to show how big the cats face really was.

Mike-san is bathing in the suns rays on a house rooftop when another cat pops up and starts talking to Mike-san, his name is Haa. Haa-san notices that Mike has gained weight and tells him which offends Mike. Mike notices that Haa-san has lost weight which Haa-san explains is due to Sora feeding him expired food which he still eats knowing that its expired, and wants to say out loud to her “What Humans Can’t Eat, Cat’s Can’t Eat Either.”

Back at the school, Asaka has gone cat crazy as she wears cat ears and paws that is questionable to Ujo. Even at her home, Asaka whines about getting a cat to her older sister who says that they can’t afford it right now. But Asaka reminds her sister that when they were younger her older sister said they could get a cat when she learned how to use the toilet by herself, which she has not that is older and even brags that she can go at night multiple times lol.

Mike and Haa are strolling the neighborhood when they see their friend Gure (Gray), who shows off his red collar that shows that he has just become a house cat. Kuma suddenly appears on top of a telephone pole and jumps down in front of the three to take a better look at the collar, landing hard on his feet.

Kuma is curious about the collar when Haa-san suggests that Kuma should try it out which he does with Gure’s permission. Unfortunately Kuma’s neck and Gure’s neck aren’t the same size and the collar is so tight on Kuma that he looks like a different breed of cat (don’t ask me what breed he is as I don’t know myself lol), especially when he takes off the collar which has separated his fur. But Kuma fixes this by sucking in air to blow his fur back into place. Mike realizes that Kuma really wants to become a house cat and suggests he does the old “pet in the box” trick where Kuma would go inside an empty box with a message on it that could be understood as a message for a person to take Kuma home with him/her. They try multiple messages and finally decide on “rare beast”, afterwards they leave Kuma in the box in a park where Asaka finds him and takes him home.

Asaka takes Kuma home and shows him to his sister who says they can’t take him in but one look at his “kawaii” face and she agrees to keep him. Mike and Haa are surprised that someone actually took Kuma when Gure showed up without his collar and proceeded to scratch up the box and leave back to the streets and alleys of the town. Sora shows up in the park and Haa immediatly goes up to her and Nya’s (meow) to her which surprises Mike and Haa had just told him to stay away from Sora when she gives out food earlier that day, which happens as Sora brings out expired salmon from her bag to feed Haa.

Impression:
This was a cute episode to watch, the cats had excellent voices in my opinion. I actually like this episode is one of my favorites for Sketchbook. I especially like Haa-san because of how he looks and his voice, plus the one line of his “What Humans Can’t Eat, Cat’s Can’t Eat Either” was hilarious. This is an episode people should watch, which is a nice little story that deviates from Sora and her friends. I hope I get to see more of Haa-san and his friends in upcoming episodes ^^.
