Smile on Clare, Smile on

With the end of Claymore, episode 26, comes the end of many things. Loyalty, revenge, sanity, life, and more. I was hoping for an alternate ending that I had in mind and the ending has left me with questions of “why” the anime ended this way. Well with this ending they leave an opening for another season, but one that most likely ends up different than the manga.

Clare, now in yoma form, with greater speed, power, ugliness, and a bunch of spiked appendages to boot fights with Prisclla in order to get her revenge.
Clare yoma form
Prisclla, now in her more powerful yoma form, senses the yoki of Teresa in Clare as Clare powers up that leads to Prisclla’s mind once again becoming confused on who Clare truly is. But no matter, for Clare is now a yoma and to Prisclla all yoma’s must die. Clare goes on the attack with all her strength and even uses her appendages as flash attacks to put the pressure on Prisclla. Prisclla in her current state is still more powerful than Clare and easily fends off all the moves Clare throws at her.
Prisclla full yoma
After Prisclla catches Clare in her hands, Prisclla throws Clare to the ground and rushes after to deal the finishing blow. But Clare’s memory of Teresa’s death gave her new strength to rebound from the throw by using the flash appendages to propel herself off the ground and behind Prisclla where Clare sliced into Prisclla’s body and severing her wings.

As Prisclla tries to make sense of what just happened she senses a fearful presence that she would rather forget. The fearful presense is Teresa of the Faint Smile, who is actually Clare, is taken in by Prisclla who reverts to her child form due to the great fear she now succumbs to.

Now Clare, with her revenge in sight is about to deliver the final blow when she is suddenly stopped. Raki (the idiot) has jumped onto Clare and asks her to stop all of this and that everyone there has been affected in some way by yoma, including Prisclla, and there is no need to kill her. Raki’s statement to Clare to “Live as a human to the end,” strikes a memory in Clare of Teresa saying the same will to live to her and Clare gains her composure. But Clare’s body has gone too far past the limit and does what any yoma body wants to do, kill. Clare’s appendages start shaking and is going to spike Raki when Jean pushes Raki aside and takes his place.

Jean tells Clare to concentrate and become a human again through the method that led to Jean becoming human again after becoming a yoma. The blow Clare left on Jean is fatal but Jean doesn’t care as long as she can return the favor of returning Clare back to human form just as she had done for her. Through the same method Clare becomes human once again but the energy needed to do it has left Jean for dead.

Easley takes this moment to take Prisclla into his arms and disappears into the early morning with her.

With the fight over and recovered from their heavy injuries, Helen, Deneve, and Miria decide to leave the organization and bide their time until something of great importance comes about that requires their attention.

At Jean’s burial site, Clare pays her respects and asks Raki if he wishes to continue life with Clare whose life will now become more difficult, which Raki gladly accepts. Clare, still with doubt on her decision to let Prisclla live and still be alive herself, asks Teresa for guidance. Above Jean’s grave, Teresa’s ghost appears and smiles at Clare who now acceptance of her new life and what awaits her.

Impression:
Well not the ending I was hoping for. I, like probably many out there, wanted to see Prisclla dead by Clare’s hands. I wanted to see Raki’s death too lol, for stopping Clare right when her purpose in life was about to be achieved. I learned that the anime actually deviates from the manga ending so I’m going to have to look it up and see the alternate ending. The ending left an impression of a whole new season with Clare’s new abilities, dissension amongst the Claymore’s and Organization, the three creatures of the abyss still alive, Prisclla living, and so on. This was one of the better and controversial animes this season and was well worth the watch. Well I’ll be more than happy to watch more Claymore as long as the anime keeps up or become better when it shows itself again. Until then, bye bye all you gallant Claymore’s, until we meet again.
Bye Claymores

I expected the ending you described above to the slightest detail.
I am also very sad for Jeane, but she would not have lived much longer at this rate.

Please tell me the alternate ending as soon as you know about it, because this version, even if great for the protagonists, left me with a sour impression of unfinished business, as well as unpunished arch-villains.

On a final note, I love the drawing. I wonder what Claymore would have done if it was a parody of RPGs or something like that… But Claymore is awesome as is and will remain in my favorite anime of all time.

Now Darker than Black is the latest anime I have yet to see the end of.

…And I was “You dumb Raki, you don’t even know who Priscilla is, you’ve just met her and you’re not scared of her yet? She is evil, do you prefer her over Clare?! Why do you protect her, you (censored)!!”

Hmmm… Well, I guess many can share my thoughts and words on that (as well as a frustrated expression on face).
Sorry for being a bit rough on my choice of words, but it’s really how I felt. I’ll behave now. XD

    >> until we meet again

It took like, 3 years to build up enough manga for them to make an anime from (about 10 volumes). We’re not seeing a second season for a loooooooooong time, unless it’s filler, which would totally destroy my respect for the series.

Agreed on the Raki part though, Clare should have went straight through him to Priscilla D=

The ending was good, especially seeing Clare powered up (and down) after all that. The one thing that bothered was the very end, I was looking for something more dramatic and final, it felt like that they were saving it for the 2nd season presumably.

Claymore has been one of only a few anime series I’ve seen that stayed consistently good throughout it’s run and I’m glad that I stayed with it in the long run.

@D_Blade: I’m sure there is a translation out there already that I can find, but I’m contemplating if I should wait for the manga to come out then buy the whole series lol. Going to set me back around 100 USD. The picture is awesome, I hope people will make more Lucky Star alternatives like that.
@Shirukii: Wow, 3 years, did not know that lol. Well we never know, if the series is popular enough in Japan then maybe it might be quicker than that for another season. Here’s hoping for no fillers.
@Otaku Surf: I know what you mean, I thought the whole relationship between Clare and Priscilla would end. But they leave that open for the next season, I was really hoping for Clare to slice Priscilla up like she did with Rigardo, o well.

Was expecting this kind of end. To me, Prisclla couldn’t have died so quickly, since Easley was looking after her. I thought he would have intervened more violently though…

I also wished Raki died, but that couldn’t have happened too… unfortunately for Jeanne :(

Lot of folks seem to don’t like those last episodes (since the 22th), but I really enjoyed them, even if it was very predictable in fact ^^

    This Lucky-Star-like picture is awesome!
