Ever wake up in the morning and find that your fridge is shaking? That’s what Sunao woke up to and investigated to find the cause of the ruckus to be a little creature with a round body and cat ears on its head. He named her (it?) Potemayo, taking the word potato (poteto in Japanese) and mayonnaise which were the flavors of his breakfast bread….sick. Sunao takes Potemayo with him wherever he goes including school where Potemayo causes a bit of trouble. First of all Potemayo generates attention due to her look which distracts the class. A girl classmate of called Mikan who like Sunao appears as a rival to Potemayo that results in Potemayo growling every time Mikan goes near Sunao or even thinks strong about him which Potemayo can pick up possibly miles away. Late in the day we find another creature appearing through Sunoa’s fridge that looks similar to Potemayo, though this new creature is a bit more aggressive as she slices the fridge door diagonally only to later repair it with duct tape. The newcomer takes a walk to a local park where we find Mikan’s and her friends stopping in the middle of their outdoor art class assignment taking a break to eat truffles/guchu when Mikan’s friend, Kyo, drops one of her truffle in mid-air which is suddenly split in half. We find out its the newcomer who later comes out to repair the truffle with duct tape. Suddenly we see most of Sunao’s class surround the newcomer which frightens her into a frenzy of beam shooting. Kyo goes out with her friends to find the newcomer, Kyo finds her first and leaves a peace offering of the truffle which the newcomer likes. Kyo names the newcomer Guchuko which the newcomer responds to. The next morning Kyo finds a dead bloody pig on her desk, but who could have left it there? Awwww, it was cute Guchuko thanking Kyo for the truffle the other day. Now Kyo makes a little extra for her new friend to eat at school.
Impression:
This is a anime geared towards those who love cute, I like a bit of cute so I don’t mind watching this anime. By cute, I mean seeing Poteyama taking a piddle on Sunao’s head when shes scared, a very round baby bird that usually stays on Potemayo’s head, Guchuko trying to take out a bird out of a cuckoo clock, Guchuko sleeping peacefully, Guchuko fixing everything she slices with duct tape, Guchuko eating, did I mention Guchuko ^-^? You can tell who I like the most. There’s no real plot except for Mikan’s relationship development with Sunao as its another slice of life anime geared towards cuteness. If you are a fan of cute I would recommend watching this, even if you’re not I suggest watching the first episode of this and see if you are. I have watched beyond the first episode and see the cuteness continuing which I enjoy watching, especially Guchuko.
Sunao and Patemayo, Patemayo always tries to find something to do while she waits for Sunao to finish class, in this case it’s drawing

This is Mikan who I think looks very similar to Otoha from Sky Girls.

Kyo almost getting her head chopped of as she offers a truffle to Guchuko

This is what happens when you leave food in the fridge too long >_<.

Guchuko’s actions/behavior is so cute its like “AHHHHHH, too kawaii” to me >_<, especially when she “repairs” everything she slices with her scythe by using duct tape…kawaii

You know those “horns” on the side of Guchuko’s head? They are alive and they can shoot giant beams out of their mouth that fry whatever in its path to crisps.

Glad I’m not the only one to think that she looked a little like Otoha (and Kazumi Yoshida, for that matter). ^^;;
Reminds me of all those fairy-in a human world anime series.
Yes, Mikan gives me that impression too even if I never watched Sky Girls (as true as Kagami resembles Rin from F/SN and Miyuki looks like a miniature Mizuho from Onegai Teacher).
Guchuko makes me think of a little devil or a shinigami with her mini scythe (kawaii!). and those things look more like exotic hairpins than horns to me.
Potato-derived dishes go well with mayonnaise, especially mashed potatoes/purée. But as breakfast on bread… I guess I would pass on that, except if I had nothing else to eat and that I were starving to death.
*laughs at the line with the sliced fridge door in half and duct tape* Must be magical duct tape then… *Runs away before being transformed to charcoal, anime-style*
@xXMikotoNakadaiXx: Kazumi huh, ya I agree she looks similar though the difference I think lies in the eyes and hair style.
@D_Blade: Exotic hairpins, hehe I want to see a girl wear that…they look slightly cute themselves ^^. I was never a fan of mayonnaise, which is why I really think its sick on whatever. I hope Guchuko keeps slicing everything up..it’s super cute.
Well, one of the main reasons why I thought she was similiar to Kazumi was probably because her voice actress is the same.
Well, you don’t know what you’re missing about mayonnaise. *laughs*
About Guchuko, maybe you are right after all. When I think of it, those may be living goat horns (?!) and the character herself may be a little cute demon.
Random destructive beams… Better not annoy those little kawaii furballs or you would regret it deeply.
mmmhhh I want to see that!
Thanks AS, I’ve never heard about this anime till now
@xXMikotoNakadaiXx: Ahhh you are correct. I never was too good with names so I tend not to notice. Voice actors tend to alter their voice to suit different characters which why I also tend not to notice ^^.
@D_Blade: Ya, I believe those “horns” have a life of their own but I believe its a mutual partnership with the horns living off Guchuko while providing protection for her.
@lu-k: Glad I could be of help, you will enjoy watching it ^^.
The series I wanted to tell you about in particular was “Mirmo!”. It’s pretty old, but it’s very enjoyable, even if I am much more into shonen anime, like… -Jamming noises- (Please read the “Anime so far” post to know more about my current tastes; sorry for the inconvenience, thank you). Xp
Lots of humor and kawaiiness in the aforementioned series. If you never tried it, just give it a shot (if you can find it, of course). I truly encourage you to do so if you like Potemayo.
doesnt mikan look like ichigo from tokyo mew mew?!?!!?!?!?!?
omg!
